Community groups provide lots of support and services to help individual members or clients facing poverty and deprivation. But how can we press for and achieve real social change, to improve people’s circumstances on a wider scale?

EVA is working with key funder Trust for London on an exciting project to help local community groups and charities develop their advocacy and campaigning skills to press for change.
It will focus on a key section of Enfield residents facing particular deprivation – the thousands of individuals and families living in temporary accommodation.
Many Enfield community groups have members or clients living in temporary accommodation – because they are escaping domestic abuse or violence, because they are refugees or asylum seekers, because they have been made homeless and for other reasons.
Living in temporary accommodation means people are often without the basics they need in life – somewhere to cook, a way to wash clothes, internet access, safe storage for belongings, and clear information about their housing situation.
Working together to improve temporary accommodation in Enfield
The Trust for London programme – the Enfield TA Forum – is a pilot programme offering grants and training to build campaigning skills and knowledge in Enfield’s community groups. It will boost their ability to push for real social change to improve life for people in temporary accommodation across the borough.
Grant applications will open on 6 January and close on 17 February.
If your community organisation is supporting people who are living in temporary accommodation for any reason, come along and find out more. We will confirm venue details with attendees nearer the time.
Please note: this event is open to Enfield community and voluntary groups only. Statutory organisations are not eligible to attend.
